The Facilities

The proposed building will not only act as a mediator, improving Eastwood House’s setting within a defined mature parkland, but will also open up routes and internal thoroughfares across important site-wide axes.

The building will be as public, open and free-flowing as possible and is ideally located within an improved centre of the park, with the area taken up by the existing building being given back to landscaping. The design of the proposed façades, in particular the south elevation, will be light, elegant and as transparent as possible.

This is in order to celebrate the public nature of the building, promote views through so the activities and internal routes are emphasised, and so Eastwood House is framed by high-quality sensitive materials at an appropriate scale, that create an interplay of being light and see-through yet reflecting back Eastwood House and the mature woodland setting depending on the angle of view or time of day.

Located at the heart of the building is the Community Library, Cafe and associated Kitchen, Games Hall, Gymnasium and flexible Fitness Studios, with the Swimming and Theatre uses ‘book-ending’ the plan arrangement on either side.

The brief for the new building includes:

  • 50m x 6 lane Swimming Pool with approx. 200 person spectator zone and relaxation area
  • 20m x 7m Training Pool
  • Family Fun Pool and Flume
  • Wet Changing Village
  • 6 Court Games Hall
  • Dry Changing Village
  • Cafe with associated Kitchen & Servery
  • Community Library (similar to Barrhead Foundry in size)
  • 140 station Fitness Suite
  • 4 flexible Fitness Studios, supporting uses ranging from spin classes, to yoga, to cross-fit, to Gymnastics
  • 320-400 seat Theatre
  • Approx. 100 seat Studio Theatre
  • Theatre Bar
  • Shared office space
